Understanding Rational Judaism
12:00 pm Lunch
1:00 pm Program
For many Jews, the only concept of God is the personal, loving and judging God of the Torah, who rewards and punishes according to our deeds. But Judaism embraces both the anthropomorphic (human like) emotional God as well as the rationalist model of a greater power in the universe which harbors neither emotions nor relationships. Utilizing the 13th century Jewish philosopher Maimonides’ “Mishneh Torah,” we will explore the Rational Judaism’s concept of God as source of creation but not relation. For the self-proclaimed atheist or agnostic Jews, perhaps other options exist within Jewish theology.
