Shakshua Ingredients
1 (28-ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon harissa (if you can find it! or 1 jalapeño pepper, minced)
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
6 large eggs
1/4 cup loosely packed chopped fresh cilantro leaves and tender stems
2 ounces feta cheese, crumbled (about 1/2 cup, optional)
Crusty bread or pita, for serving (optional)
Pita Ingredients1 cup warm water (not hot or boiling)
2 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast
2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 to 2 teaspoons olive oil (optional)
