What is the Emergency Shelter Partnership (ESP):
The Emergency Shelter Partnership was created 15 years ago to address the needs of local people who are homeless.  Many day laborers in our community work seasonally as gardeners, landscapers, and other similar jobs during the warmer months. During the winter season, their income typically decreases substantially and finding housing becomes much more difficult.  The Emergency Shelter Partnership was created to address this crisis and provide emergency housing for these individuals.

Many area churches, synagogues, and mosques participate in rotating schedule helping a group of homeless people by providing a warm place to sleep, a hot dinner, as well as a breakfast bag.

As many as 20 homeless people have been accommodated at Temple Beth El each night when we have hosted this program in the past.  We could get up to 30 people and we could use your help.

*Overnight volunteering is an important, yet very easy roll.  The shelter guests are accompanied by a paid employee of the ESP.  That employee sleeps in the room with our guests.  Our volunteer sleeps in a private room (our Bridal Room).  Our overnight volunteer's primary responsibility is to be the host should a question come up once other temple members have left. Contact Noah Sorkin for more information regarding overnight duties.
