2nd Grade
2nd Grade
This year is dedicated to an in-depth look at the both the historical roots of, and the modern function of the synagogue itself. Students will do a fun project where they research, create a poster and present information about a synagogue of their choice. At the end of the year, students will walk away with a deep and rich understanding of the origins of synagogue life and a historical knowledge of the dynamic nature of synagogues. Each child will also create a yad to be used at their b’nei mitzvah.
In their Hebrew classes, children will move on from recognizing Hebrew letters to start to read Hebrew words.
Our studies are enriched by a trip to the Jewish Museum in NYC, another trip to the Derfner Museum in Riverdale, and a visit from an archeologist. Every week, the students continue to participate in tefillah (prayer) in our Sanctuary, and enrichment classes designed to get them moving and have an appreciation of Jewish and Israeli culture (gaga, Krav Maga, music, etc).
Our second grade families have the opportunity to participate in a family education session and a parent education session taught by a member of our clergy team. Additionally, second grade families will share a shabbat dinner and lead a First Friday Shabbat Service.
